LGBT Groups in the Scottish Highlands

The Highland LGBT Forum is a group of volunteers drawn from the LGBT community. It is independent from any other organisations and aims to organise a variety of events for the local LGBT community where everyone is welcome.

This page aims to be an informative list of all groups within the north of Scotland which serve the LGBT community. This includes details of groups and events which are not connected to or organised by the Highland LGBT Forum.

INVERNESS
The following groups meet in Inverness offering support and/or social contact:

  • GirlZone - an independent meeting place for gay women, lesbians, bisexual women and friends of all ages. Trans women also welcome.
  • Highland Rainbow Folk - a joint working group of Age Concern / Help the Aged in Scotland and Terrence Higgins Trust aiming to raise awareness of issues facing older LGBT people. Monthly meetings - all ages welcome.
  • Swans (transgender / transvestite / transexual) - and independent group which meets at the Beaufort Hotel in Inverness on the fourth Thursday of the month
  • Pink Castle Philosophy Club - meets on the second Tuesday of every month in Inverness. Contact Morgan on 01463 751258 / 07745 930383 or email morgan@tramstop.org.
  • THT has a variety of groups. The LGBT youth group meets on the first Friday of every month at THT in Inverness from 6pm-8pm for 16 - 25 year olds.
    Gay Men's Group for adults of all ages (socialise, chat, meet like minded people) meets on the first Wednesday of the month from 7pm at THT (34 Waterloo Place, Inverness). Contact 01463 711585 for more details.
    Open Door Afternoons at THT are on Tuesdays from 2pm - 4pm for LGBT people to meet up and chat.
    From the end of August, THT will hold an LGBT Film night on the last Wednseday of the month. Arrive 7pm, film starts at 7.30pm sharp.

MORAY
The new LGBT Moray group has recently been formed. Meetings are in The Cooperage (across from Marks & Spencers in Elgin) on the second and fourth Thursday of the month from 7.30pm onwards in the recessed reserved seating area at the back of the pub on the left. If you're nervous about coming along, someone can meet you in advance - call the group mobile on 07598418638. Feel free to bring along a friend for support if you wish. There will also be a meeting in Elgin Library on the first Tuesday of the month 7.30-9pm (onto the Cooperage afterwards is optional!). Join the LGBT Moray Facebook group for updates.

CAITHNESS
There is a local group which meets in Thurso and Wick.
THT in Inverness has set up a Yahoo group for LGBT people in the North of Scotland where you can chat online with others in this area.

ABERDEEN / GRAMPIAN

ARGYLL / OBAN
THT is running a new Gateway Group for LGBT people to meet informally in Oban. The next meeting is Saturday 21st August in the afternoon. THT is also looking to create some new LGBT social and support networks especially for the Kintyre and Mid Argyll areas.
