Older Lesbians
An exciting new research project about older lesbians, 'The Lives of British Lesbians Over Sixty,' based at the University of Sussex, will build the first-ever comprehensive picture of older lesbian life in the UK.
They need as many women as possible to take part! If you are a lesbian or bisexual woman aged 60 or more, please help to make this national survey a success by filling in the questionnaire and encouraging your friends to do so too. For more info, visit:
www.womenlikethat.co.uk
Moray
The new LGBT Moray group has recently been formed. Meetings will be in The Cooperage (across from Marks & Spencers in Elgin) on the second and fourth Thursday of the month from 7.30pm onwards in the recessed reserved seating area at the back of the pub on the left. If you're nervous about coming along, someone can meet you in advance - call the group mobile on 07598418638. Feel free to bring along a friend for support if you wish. Join the LGBT Moray Facebook group for updates.

OUTSKIRTS Newsletters

The OUTSKIRTS monthly e-zine is produced in Tayside but is aimed at all lesbian and bi women living outwith the Glasgow and Edinburgh areas.

Girlzone
For lesbians, gay women, bisexual women & T women in the Scottish Highlands
Based in Inverness

Originally formed back in 2002, Girls @ The Gate lost our venue in Inverness when The Gate cafe-bar changed hands in August 2003 and stopped being gay-friendly. We re-named ourselves GirlZone and now meet for lunch in Inverness city centre twice a month (on the first Saturday and third Friday).

The next GirlZone dates are:

  • Saturday 7 August - GirlZone lunch from 1pm at Wetherspoons in Church Street. Joanne will be away on holiday but there will be someone to welcome any newcomers.
  • Friday 20 August - GirlZone lunch from 12.30pm - 2pm in the restaurant upstairs in Debenhams (take the lift to the very top floor in the Eastgate shopping centre, don't go to the cafe on the ground floor!)

GirlZone is a friendly, informal social group for all ages. If you are a gay woman, lesbian or bisexual woman (or if you are questioning your sexual orientation), then feel free to get in touch. All welcome whether married, separated, divorced, single or living with a partner (male or female). Trans women are welcome too.
If you're nervous about coming along, a couple of us can meet you in advance and show you we don't bite! Feel free to bring along a straight friend for support if you wish.
Look for the blue box! We have a small cardboard blue cube (actually it's a shiny little gift box!) on the table to identify us for the benefit of any newcomers who just want to drop by. Find the blue box and you'll know you've got the right table!

We have women who come along from places throughout the Highlands & Moray including Nairn, Elgin, Tain and sometimes as far afield as Caithness.

For more details, contact Joanne at girlzone@gay-ness.org.uk

All women are welcome at GirlZone!
Dates for your diary
Make a note in your diary for Saturday 23 October! The Highland LGBT Forum is organising a Halloween Party at the Raigmore Motel with a whole evening packed with live entertainment. The line-up features DJ Calum, The Shire, and a special guest appearance by Miss Shirley B. Tickets will cost £10 and will go on sale in August.
The Raigmore Motel is offering a special discount on room rates for the night. A single room will cost £35.80 and a twin/double room £56.20. Call them on 01463 221546 to book your room.
The Forum is also looking at holding a Christmas lunch in an Inverness pub about a week before Christmas - we'll keep you posted!

COMING OUT
If you are just coming out as a lesbian or bi, check out the LGBT Youth Scotland web site which has lots of great info and advice. They operate a national text message support service which you can contact by texting "info" to 0778 148 17 88 and a trained youth worker will text you back.
HELPLINE
The LGBT Centre for Health and Wellbeing has launched the Lothian LGBT Helpline on 0131 556 4049 and this is available every Wednesday, 12.30-7pm. The helpline offers support and information on a range of issues including sexuality, relationships and coming out. The service is available to anyone who is lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender and those questioning their sexuality or gender identity. It is also there to help families, friends, supporters and any other agencies acting on behalf of an LGBT person.
THE SAPPHO SERVICE - LESBIAN HEALTH
Free clinical and counselling services to lesbians, bisexual women and women who have sex with women. The service is the only one of its kind in Scotland. Contact the Centre for Women's Health at The Sandyford Initiative in Glasgow. Library and creche available. Tel: 0141 211 6700 or 0141 211 8130. Click here for web site
